Traditional Medicines of India

Since ancient times, India is being a home for alternative medicine therapy and traditional medicines to treat many diseases and health conditions. Scholars and researches have used herbs, food, oils, fruits to treat their patients. This article will briefly discuss about different traditional medicines and alternative medical therapies that are available in India.

Ayurveda: The word Ayurveda, a Sanskrit word, means science of life. Ayurveda is the ancient alternative medicine that was born in Vedic age. Professionals who practice Ayurveda are known as Ayurvedacharyaas. This alternative medicine in India considers metaphysics of human body based on five great elements of universe such as air, water, earth, fire and space.




Healing Therapy: Healing therapy is one of the main reasons for many tourists getting attracted to India in recent times. Yoga is considered the best healing therapy among multiple alternative medicine therapies of India. There are various types of Yoga such as Alpha meditation, Sahaja yoga, Raj yoga, Kriya yoga and Esha yoga followed by various gurus and people. All yogic methods advise the same theory of doing meditation to lead a healthy life, the ways and yogic techniques are unique in attaining the result.





Herbal Therapy: Even though herbs are used in Ayurveda, herbal therapy is a separate field where different herbs are used to cure diseases and different medical conditions. As a natural system of medicine therapy, herbal therapy is considered the best for curing conditions relating to beauty care, mental problems, depression, hair care and reproductive treatment options.





Homeopathy: Homeopathy is considered the safest alternative treatment option in India due to its medicinal benefits with no side effects. Homeopathy specialists consider diseases as the hypothetical disturbances of life forces. By treating the negative side of mind, they try to cure diseases and illnesses. People have complaints about the time taken by this alternative medicine treatment to cure illnesses.




Music Therapy: Sound waves are identified to treat certain illnesses related to neurological system by correcting the way brain cells react. Music therapy, born during Vedic period in India, different ragas from Indian Carnatic music (southern part of India) and Indian Hindusthani music (northern part of India) are used to treat illnesses and medical conditions such as headache, depression, digestive disorders and sleeping disorders.



Alternative therapies of India are famously known for its completeness in treating diseases with nil or minimal side effects. People prefer Alopathy medicines compared to alternative treatment options due to its slower reactions. Practitioners in modern India by combining new technologies and modern techniques work towards enhancing the benefits of alternative and traditional medicines.

Thanks for the information. However, for Ayurveda medicines, one can consider Patanjali Yogpeeth situated in Haridwar which is an initiative of Yoga guru, Swami Ramdev, who's got India on the world map, owing to Ayurveda, yoga and meditation and herbal sciences.
